Lakeville forward Carter Ernst has announced his commitment to play Division I hockey for the University of St. Thomas. A product of the Lakeville youth and high school system, Ernst established himself as one of Minnesota’s most dangerous scorers during the 2024–25 season. The skilled and composed forward tallied 61 points in 30 games for the Cougars, helping guide his team to a berth in the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament.

Few players in the state elevated their game as dramatically as Ernst did last season. His ability to find open ice in the slot, maintain body position through contact, and release shots in stride became defining traits of his offensive game. What began as flashes of potential early in his varsity career evolved into full-fledged dominance by midseason, cementing him as one of Minnesota’s premier high school forwards.

Ernst’s blend of poise, scoring touch, and hockey sense should translate well to the Division I level, where he’ll look to make an impact for a Tommies program on the rise.
