The Gophers have added in-state blue liner as Benjamin Geiger has committed to the University of Minnesota. Geiger will be developing his game with the NTDP this upcoming season.

Geiger blends high-end hockey sense with real offensive pop from the back end. This season he set Northfield High School’s single-season scoring record for a defenseman with 22 goals and 66 points, driving the play at even strength and quarterbacking the power play with poise. His ability to control pace, clean exits, quick entries, and head-up distribution, stood out all year.

Defensively, Geiger’s length and stick detail close space early, and he transitions from defense to offense without wasting touches. He reads pressure, hits the first option, and isn’t shy about jumping to soft ice to create a second layer in the attack. The frame is lanky with clear runway, and added strength should only sharpen his battles and net-front work at the collegiate level.

For Minnesota, it’s a smart fit: a mobile, play-driving defenseman who can tilt the ice, run a power play, and grow into a reliable two-way role.
