Monticello High School defenseman Nicklas Nelson has announced his commitment to the University of Connecticut.
Nelson was a key offensive driver for Monticello during the 2024–25 season, recording 42 points in 28 games for the Moose. This fall, Nelson has continued his development in the Upper Midwest Elite League, where he’s preparing for another strong high school campaign.
The Monticello native’s upward trajectory has also drawn attention on the national stage. He was selected to represent the United States at the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, and NHL Central Scouting has listed him as a Player to Watch for the 2026 NHL Draft.
