Aleksi Huson is the MN Hockey Life Prospect of the Week as he was a brick wall on Saturday stopping 60 of 61 shots, salvaging a tie against a high potent Rogers offense. The senior goalie was tested early and answered the call right out of the gate by stopping 16 first period shots, giving the Sabers the lead heading into the dressing room 1-0. Huson gives the Sabers a chance every game and is 5-1-1 on the season with 2.47 GAA and .921 Saves%
Rogers came into the game averaging 6.2 goals a game but had a tough time beating Huson. His technically sound positioning and quickness kept Rogers at bay, leaving the Royals with their first blemish of the season, now sitting at 5-0-1 on the year. Huson has the number one ingredient for a successful goalie, a short memory. He demonstrates a nice approach and keeps strong despite what might be happening around him. He takes it one shot at a time and gets himself prepared to make that save.
The Shakopee Captain is not new to a heavy workload. Huson has been in the Shakopee goal for the last three years, being a key member in the transition of a program that has went from an afterthought to a contender. A performance like this shows that come Section 2AA Playoffs, Shakopee should not be taken lightly and could surprise many with a potential underdog win. Let’s not forget the Section 2AA Semifinal game last season, when Huson made 59 saves in a 3-1 loss to Minnetonka.
For his career at Shakopee, Huson is 31-21-1, with many more victories to come this season. Saturday was a special performance for an outstanding goaltender.
