St. Thomas made a huge splash in recruiting by receiving a commitment from blue-chip prospect Henry Lechner. The right-shot forward has accumulated 113 points (45 goals, 65 assists) in just 50 games for Academy of Holy Angels over the past two years. Henry is set to start his junior season for the Stars this winter.
Lechner is an elite talent that possesses great size and terrific puck skills. His Hockey IQ is off the charts as he can process situations quickly and then execute with precision. Lechner often makes the difficult play look so easy. His passes are on the mark and his shots are deceptive and accurate. Henry can work in tight areas and has that natural scoring sense. The aspect of Henry’s game that is so valuable is he makes his teammates better when he is on the ice.
Lechner and UST makes sense as he plays attentive hockey, paying close attention to every detail of the game, something Rico Blasi and the coaching staff expects from their players. Henry’s dad is also a St. Thomas alum, having played football for the Tommies from 1996 to 1999.
The recent commitment’s from Lechner and Drew Roelofs of Holy Family is a clear sign that the State’s top talent are now considering UST as top landing spot.
