Shutdown defender Henry Peterson of Hermantown committed to the University of St. Thomas on Tuesday, the only Minnesotan do so on the opening day of the commitment period for prospects entering their junior year in high school.
The 6’1, 160-pound, right-handed shot registered 3 points in 22 games as a sophomore last season for the Hawks and will play a much bigger role for the squad this season. Peterson’s game has been progressing quickly and this summer Henry made the High Performance final 64, where he scored 2 goals in three games while playing tight defense.
Peterson is a strong skater that makes fluid transitions. He has a strong stick and excellent gap control. His persistence of the puck carrier leads to a lot of broken plays and turnovers. Expect a significant rise in points this season as his ice time for Hermantown was limited last season as the 2007 DOB worked his way up the depth chart.
Peterson is expected to be in a Tommies uniform for the 2026-27 season, but of course that could change. Up next for Henry will be the Midwest Elite League this fall.
