Owen Buesgens is staying in Minnesota for college as he announced that he has made a verbal commitment to play hockey at the University of St. Thomas. The Chanhassen defenseman tallied 6 goals and added 24 assists in 28 games as a junior last season.
Buesgens has been a key part of the recent success at Chanhassen, last year the Storm finished 24-4 and lost a heartbreaker in the section final to the eventual State Champions, Minnetonka. Owen was a leader on the blueline for a Storm team that only allowed 34 goals all season.
I am proud to announce my commitment to play division 1 hockey at the University of St. Thomas. I would like to thank my family, friends and all of the coaches who have helped me along the way.#rolltoms pic.twitter.com/B9yZRPIH3n

Buesgens is a low panic defender that makes intelligent plays with and without the puck. Owen doesn’t force a play if it’s not there and has the skating ability to escape pressure and find an alternative option. He has shown that he’s a team first player and will sacrifice personal glory to win.
It has yet to be determined what his route will be before he gets on campus as he has some unfinished business at the high school level and extra development in the USHL before joining the Tommies. Owen’S USHL rights belong to Green Bay, who selected him in the 7th round of the 2022 USHL Draft (Phase One).
