Former Captain of Hill-Murray High School and 2020 State Champion, Axel Begley has committed to play his college hockey at the University of Minnesota. This past season Axel skated in 63 games with the Wisconsin Windigo, notching 9 goals, 30 assists and was an astounding +33 in plus/minus, which was 3rd in the NAHL.
Axel played four years for Hill-Murray, winning the State Tournament in 2020 and putting up 70 points in 100 career games while playing shutdown defense.
Axel gives the Gophers a balanced player that can be relied on in the future to log a ton of minutes while contributing on the power-play and penalty skill. Begley is a solid skater that possesses a strong stick. Begley’s situational awareness is elite, as he seemingly is always gaining position and making effective plays in all three zones.
His smarts are not only on the ice as he received the NAHL Academic Achievement Award and has to this day the best (and smartest) State Tournament introduction.
