Overlooked: Bobby Cowan, Edina

Don’t be surprised when Edina’s Bobby Cowan makes a major impact this season. If given the opportunity, Cowan looks primed to take that next step as he has looked tremendous for the Minnesota Blades Under-16 team this fall.

Cowan is a swift skating, puck possession forward that has great agility. During recent viewings Cowan has taken charge on the ice, looking very confident in his abilities, while playing at a fast pace. Cowan’s creativity and stickwork has been problematic for opposing defenders as he does a great job of moving east/west and does so while manipulating his speed.

Cowan’s shot is an absolute laser! In one viewing, he made a beautiful cut into the slot and without any setup he let a snapshot loose, it released off his stick with deception and energy. With his ability to create space and with the shot that he possesses, he should be a very dangerous scorer for Edina this season. Cowan has also been used as a powerplay quarterback this fall, a good fit for him as he can handle the puck without panic, make crisp passes, and get pucks to the net.

Cowan is being overlooked right now as some of his 2006 DOB peers have been committing to colleges and others playing in the Upper Midwest Elite League. Credit to Cowan, even though he’s been bypassed and underappreciated, he has worked on his game and has made great progress. For Cowan, his time is coming, and he has the skill to succeed.
