Cooper Simpson scored his 100th career Minnesota State High School Hockey goal on Thursday night, becoming just the third Class AA player to accomplish this milestone over the past 10 years.

The Shakopee forward scored his first goal against Hopkins on November 30th, 2021, his first game at the high school level. The goal was assisted by Cole Baumgartner and proved to be the game-winner. Cooper went on to have a great freshman season, finishing with 24 goals in 23 games.

The University of North Dakota commit has continued his torrid pace of goalscoring throughout his high school career, using his signature pullback and snap release to humble defensemen and terrorize goaltenders. Simpson scored 37 goals as a sophomore, added 29 as a junior, and has 10 so far this season.

Along the way Cooper has scored numerous goals outside of high school hockey, including scoring a goal for Team USA in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and notching 7 goals in a partial season for Tri-City of the USHL last year.

The consensus among scouts is that he will continue to score in high volumes at the collegiate level as he’s not a product of circumstance and can create scoring chances with his own ability. Combine that with a quick shot release that has some sting and indeed he should project for high totals at North Dakota.

Cooper is eligible for the 2025 NHL Draft.

Some side notes:

  • Cooper is the 24th player (Class A and AA) to score 100 career goals over the past 10 years.
  • Simpson Has recorded 11 hattricks in his career, with two of those being 4-goal games, and another being a 5-goal game.
  • The most goals against one team is 13 against Apple Valley/Burnsville….He also had 5 goal against Apple Valley his freshman year, before they combined with Burnsville.
