Luke Myers is a High-Octane Player to Watch

A player that does not get enough credit for his play is Luke Myers of Stillwater High School. Let’s take a look at what makes him a top prospect and a possible Mr. Hockey Candidate for the 2024-25 Minnesota State High School Hockey season.

The 2007 DOB is a true three-zone player, putting maximum effort in each shift he takes. While he is not as flashy as some of his peers, Luke makes calculated decisions on the ice that lead to success for himself and his teammates.

During a recent viewing Luke was a hound on the forecheck, forcing bad passes and breaking up plays by getting his stick into passing lanes while showing great anticipation of the play. Once in control of the puck he finds open ice and then exposes holes in the defense to create scoring opportunities. Skating is a strong asset for Myers, showing good control of his edges while being able to maneuver around the ice with relative ease. Luke does not lose speed when in control of the puck, showing nice acceleration and power from his crossovers. He is calm and has his head on a swivel while he evaluates the play.

Last season he put up 38 points in 27 games for the Ponies, finishing third on Stillwater in scoring. His exceptional play and continued development earned him a spot in the Midwest Elite League this fall, where he scored 18 points in 19 games against some of the state’s top players.

Stillwater will have a strong team in 2024-25, with their six top scorers returning and a group of talented young players and some seasoned vets to fill the holes. Myers is maturing physically and has a strong skill set (with a high hockey IQ) to help push him to the next level. When Stillwater’s success sets in, expect Myers to be a huge reason why and then expect whispers of him being a Mr. Hockey candidate from the masses.
