-A quick look at the skilled Casey Vandertop
Team: Edina High School
Position: Forward
Height/Weight: 5’11, 170 LBS
DOB: 4/21/2008
Commitment: University of St. Thomas
Vandertop is a skilled forward that is fundamentally sound in all three zones. The soon to be Edina High School junior is a high intensity player that plays fast, making quick decisions with and without the puck. His quick thinking puts him one step ahead of the opposition.
Casey has had a lot of success on the ice as he followed up his Bantam AA State Championship in 2023 by being a key member of Edina High School’s State Championship Team this past March. Vandertop finished 4th on the Hornets in scoring as a sophomore with 31 points in 31 games, including 4 points in the State Tournament.
Casey has not taken his foot off the gas after the high school season as he was phenomenal at the Final 54’s in the spring, earning him a spot at National Camp this summer. The University of St. Thomas commit is a consistent contributor that doesn’t take a shift off, including his play at Nationals where he played elite defensively and contributed 5 points in 5 games played. During many viewings over the past 18 months Casey has shown the ability to create pressure on the puck carrier, creating turnovers and then transitioning them into scoring opportunities.
With Vandertop set to return to Edina, the Hornets are once again considered in an elite tier in the Minnesota High School League. Expect Casey to be one of the best players in Minnesota High School Hockey this season as he continues to add strength to match his immense skill.
