Parker Deraney has signed a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Penticton Vees, becoming the first Minnesotan, 2010-born player to sign in the WHL. It’s a notable move for a prospect who has steadily risen through the ranks over the past few seasons.

Deraney has been a top performer for the Fox Motors 15U AAA squad, producing 20 points in 13 games this season while playing heavy minutes in all situations. Before that, he played a crucial role for the Minnesota Blue Ox 14U team that captured a National Championship, consistently showing poise, puck-moving ability, and competitiveness on the back end.

The 2010 defensive class in the United States is extremely deep, and the battle to earn an invite to the National Team Development Program is already shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent years. With Deraney now signed to a WHL club, it raises the question of how this impacts his NTDP path, whether he would still pursue a camp invite or what doors remain open moving forward. Regardless, his talent and trajectory continue to make him a prospect worth tracking closely.
