Cloquet native Karson Young is staying close to home. The standout defenseman announced his commitment to the University of Minnesota Duluth, taking his next step in what’s already been an impressive hockey career.
Young captained the Cloquet/Esko/Carlton Lumberjacks during his senior season, leading the team to a 20-8 record and a berth in the Section 7A Finals. Known for his poise on the back end, he tallied 38 points in 28 games, scoring 9 goals and adding 29 assists. Over his 4 years with the Lumberjacks, Young accumulated 99 points in 102 games.
In addition to his high school success, Young played with the Minnesota Wilderness (NAHL). In 26 games he registered 9 points (3 goals, 6 assists).
Standing at 6-foot, 174 pounds, Young combines mobility, vision, leadership, and a high hockey IQ. He reads the play exceptionally well, positions himself effectively, and can play with physicality to complement his finesse.
