2009-born forward Finn Spehar is taking the next big step in his hockey career, signing a WHL Scholarship & Development Agreement with the Portland Winterhawks.
The skilled right-shot forward played his bantam hockey in Minnetonka before moving on to the Sioux Falls Power U16 squad, where he led the team in scoring with 73 points in 53 games this season. Spehar becomes the second Minnesotan to sign with Portland in recent months, joining Luke Christopherson of Two Rivers, who signed in March.
Spehar is known for his crafty stickhandling and high-end puck control. On the rush, he constantly varies his attack, making him unpredictable and tough to defend. His offensive creativity and ability to read the game make him a challenging assignment for defenders and a player to watch as he transitions to major junior hockey.
Portland has a strong history of developing skilled forwards, and Spehar’s commitment signals another exciting prospect joining the pipeline.
