Moorhead standout defenseman Brandon Mickelson has signed a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Wenatchee Wild of the Western Hockey League.
The 2007-born blueliner made significant strides last season with the Spuds, showcasing his high-end agility, two-way reliability, and sharp decision-making. Mickelson tallied 44 points in 31 games on 8 goals and 36 assists. Brandon scored 4 points during the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament, including a goal and an assist in the Championship.
Mickelson becomes the third Minnesotan to sign with a WHL team in the last couple months. Starting August 1, 2025, a major shift in NCAA policy will make players from the Canadian Hockey League (CHL)—which includes the WHL, OHL, and QMJHL—eligible to compete in Division I college hockey in the United States.
Wenatchee is located in central Washington about 150 miles east of Seattle. The Wild joined the WHL in 2023.
