Top Talent Zac Zimmerman Shines for Moorhead

Zac Zimmerman is proving why he’s one of the top talents in Minnesota High School Hockey as he’s been electric for Moorhead. Of course, he delivered a heroic performance in the Semifinals against Edina, scoring two goals, including the game-winner with under a minute to play. With all the talent on display at ‘The Tourney,’ Zimmerman is showing that extra juice, making him a true difference-maker.

What makes Zimmerman tick is a combination of relentless drive and remarkable skill. His motor on the ice is unmatched; he just keeps going, pushing through every shift with high intensity. Despite his relentless pace, he maintains incredible control over the puck, even under pressure. His ability to balance speed, finesse, and physicality sets him apart from his peers.

Zimmerman is strong on his skates, powering through defenders while stick checks have little effect on him. His elite edgework and mobility allow him to maneuver with ease, making him difficult to contain in tight spaces. His stickhandling is sharp and efficient, never wasting a movement, always keeping defenders guessing.

But what truly elevates Zimmerman’s game is his hockey IQ. His smarts, ability to read the game, and understanding of positioning are second to none. Whether it’s his precise routes or his relentless pursuit, Zimmerman’s instincts and awareness allow him to create scoring chances in ways that few others can.

Last month, Zimmerman was voted by select area scouts and media members as a finalist for MN Hockey Life Player of the Year—one of just two non-seniors to make the cut (the other being Mason West of Edina).

Zimmerman’s performance against West’s Edina, in front of an overflow crowd at Xcel Energy Center, was a testament to his ability to rise to the occasion. With the game on the line, Zimmerman delivered when it mattered most, showcasing why he’s considered one of the top talents to grace the Minnesota High School Hockey stage this season.

Zimmerman has the chance to one day be remembered as one of the greats to play in the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament. He’s that special of a player, and we’re all fortunate to witness such a rare talent in action.

Notes:

  • Zimmerman has 75 points in just 30 games this season, with 31 goals and 44 assists.
  • Zimmerman, a 2008 DOB, was a US-16 Camp selection, scoring 7 points in 5 games.
  • He was also a US-15 Camp selection, posting 5 points in 4 games.
  • One of just a few sophomores selected to play in the Midwest Elite League.
  • Bantam State Champion with Moorhead.
