Forest Lake 8th grader Maverick Mckinnon has been awarded the MN Hockey Life Rising Star for the 2024-25 season. The voting committee for the award was comprised of area scouts and media members. The award is given to the top freshman (or younger) in Minnesota High School Hockey.
McKinnon made an impressive transition to high school hockey, finishing with 22 goals, 28 assists, and 50 points in his first season with Forest Lake. The 2010-born forward demonstrated the ability to compete against older competition and excel at the high school level, showing maturity and skill in the process.
The other finalist for the award were Cole Swanson of Hibbing, Luke Christopherson of Two Rivers, Nash Roed of White Bear Lake, and Jonny Bloedow of Cretin-Derham Hall.
We congratulate Maverick, and we look forward to watching his hockey progression in the years ahead.
