After a 0-9 start to the season, the Andover Huskies looked like a team searching for answers. Now, thanks in part to the steady and intelligent play of junior defenseman Chase Nadeau, they’ve found their footing at the right time.
Nadeau, a 2008 DOB, has been a rock on the blue line, playing a disciplined and smart defensive game. Chase constantly scans the ice, ensuring the high-danger areas-especially the slot-remain clear of threats. His ability to read plays before they develop makes him a stabilizing presence in Andover’s defensive zone. Nadeau’s solid on his skates and poised with the puck,… he’s comfortable carrying it out of danger and making crisp, calculated passes to spark the rush.
Unlike some defensemen who take unnecessary risks in transition, Nadeau plays within the team’s structure. He prioritizes responsible decision-making over dangerous, low percentage plays. His commitment to making the right play instead of the flashy one has been a key factor in the team’s improved defensive efforts.
Where Nadeau truly shines, however, is on the power play. His vision and awareness allow him to identify shooting lanes before he even receives the puck. When the puck comes his way, his one-timer is a weapon-consistently finding its way on net and creating chaos in front. Time and time again this season, he has generated scoring opportunities by quickly getting pucks through before the defense can reset, creating rebounds and second-chance looks for his teammates. Chase has scored 18 power-play points this season and his 15 PP assists rank third in the entire state.
With Andover now preparing for a tough Section 7 playoff battle, they will need to be at their best to secure a trip to the State Tournament. Having a dependable, high-IQ defenseman like Chase Nadeau anchoring the blue line gives them a strong chance to make some noise when it matters most.
