With hockey in full swing, here are a couple of players making an impact at the high school level and beyond.

East Grand Forks native Brock Shultz has committed to the University of St. Thomas. The 2005 forward has 11 points in 26 games this season for the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL. Last season Brock had 54 points in 28 games for East Grand Forks High School.

Mason Kraft picked up his 100th career point on Saturday. The senior Spud has 22 points in 7 games played, 11 points in his last 2 games.

Freshman Luke Christopherson of Two Rivers leads all defensemen in scoring with 19 points in 8 games played.

Jackson Knight of Orono is holding steady as the state’s leading high school scorer with 27 points in 9 games.

Sophomore goalie Charlie Scanlon of Eastview is off to a great start with a .938 SV%.

Mahtomedi needs to get the powerplay going to get back on track. The man advantage is sitting at 9.4%. Expect this to improve drastically as the season progresses.

Hibbing’s Jackson Strukel has started to rehab after surgery on his leg. The timetable is still unknown but it’s great to see one of our state’s young stars back on the ice.

Cretin’s Jonny Bloedow appears to be one of the top freshmen in the state, judging by the first handful of games. The smooth skating forward has made the transition from bantams to the high school game look easy. Jonny had two goals against Holy Angels on Saturday night and has put up 9 points on the season, tied with Nate Chorlton for the team lead.

Ohio State commit Mason Jenson leads all Class AA in goals with 13. The Rogers High School star has goals in all 7 games, with 8 in his last 3 games.

Grady Dimberio of Rock Ridge has 9 points in his last 3 games, including a 6-point game in a 6-3 win over Duluth Denfeld.

Ben Portner of Lakeville has 28 points in 29 games for Cowichan Valley Capitals of the BCHL. 12 of his 13 goals have come 5v5.
