Zach Docteur Can Play

Shakopee has the potential to be one of the most potent lineups in all high school hockey next season, with Cooper Simpson, Nate Pederson, Cooper Siegert, and Carson Steinhoff all eligible to return. While these players may take the spotlight, core players like Zach Docteur will be the Key to the Sabers success.

Docteur had a big impact for Shakopee last season, contributing 9 goals and 14 points in 26 games played. The secondary scoring was a pleasant surprise as he finished 5th on the team in goals and 8th in points. With the necessary tools at his disposal, you can expect a sizable increase in scoring production from Zach this season.

Zach is no stranger to the limelight as he’s a pure athlete, competing in three high school sports. Including being a running back on the football team, putting up over 10-yards per carry last season.

Like on the football field, Docteur is a threat every time he possesses the puck in the offensive zone, as he has an excellent shot with a wicked release. Docteur gives deception when shooting and knows how to get into an effective shooting position. In a game against Rosemount last season Zach showcased how lethal his shot can be by unloading a quick snapshot from the high slot to beat the goalie cleanly over the blocker.

While his shot is a thing of beauty, his work away from the puck is what makes him effective. In the offensive zone he moves his feet and finds open avenues to receive passes from his teammates and is quick to gain space with quick cuts. On defense he supplies a heavy forecheck, swift backchecking, and is a hound on the puck carrier. This aspect will be crucial this season as Shakopee’s team defense must step up after the loss of star goaltender Alexi Huson to graduation.

His leadership, experience, and drive will be essential on the rink for the Sabers this season as he will be needed in all situations and to provide scoring for a Sabers club with big aspirations. Shakopee is loaded with emerging players, and this could be the season that they make it to the State Tournament. To do so, Docteur must be a key component.
