Here are the Top 10 Class AA Minnesota High School Hockey teams right now. These rankings will be released every Wednesday throughout the season. I figure everyone needs a little mid-week update.
As we learn more about each teams’ abilities, we have to remember that these are young men and the inconsistency at this age is prevalent.
1. Minnetonka 4-0 (Last Week #1): The Skippers continue to hammer opponents, having outscored them 31-3. University of Minnesota recruit Javon Moore leads all AA players in scoring with 16 points. Their biggest test and maybe the game of the year up to this point, is against Chanhassen, on Thursday.
2. Rogers 4-0 (Last Week #3): Things seem to be clicking for Rogers and Cole Bumgarner is fitting in just fine, playing with some of his old Minnesota Blades teammates. Big tilt against Andover team on Thursday.
3. Wayzata 3-0 (Last Week #4): Their attention to detail and the execution of the little things makes them tough to play against. They have Hill-Murray next.
4. Chanhassen 2-2 (Last Week #5): As forementioned, the meeting with Tonka will answer a lot of questions.
5. Benilde St. Margaret’s (Last Week NR) Big wins over Edina and Andover catapult them into the top 10. This is a team playing with a lot of motivation after watching some of the players from last year’s squad move on to different schools. It also helps they have one of the top goalies in the state in Mason McElroy.
6. Edina 3-1 (Last Week #2): The loss to Benilde was tough but some are acting like Benilde is the Little Sisters of the Poor, that’s a good hockey team. They will bounce back and be fine. Grand Rapids is the next test for the Hornets.
7. Hill-Murray 1-0-1 (Last Week #7): A win against Eden Prairie and a tie to Hermantown have them staying put at seven. A date with Wayzata is coming next.
8. Holy Family 1-0 (Last Week #10): Still a little bit of an unknown as they only have the 4-1 win over Prior Lake to go on. They must hold off Duluth East on Thursday to keep their spot in the Top 10.
9. Cretin-Derham Hall 0-1 (Last Week #9): They lost a close one to Hermantown. They showed they have a lot of nice players on the roster and hope to rebound against Woodbury.
10. Rosemount (Last Week NR): Have won four straight games after their opening night loss to Minnetonka. Lakeville North will be their next challenge this Saturday.
