Tate Swanson and 12 other Members of the 2023 Bantam A Championship Team have made the Hibbing Chisholm High School Hockey Team. The youth movement is the marking of a new era in Hibbing, one that could bring home some hardware in the coming years.
It didn’t take long for Swanson to make an Impact as the sophomore forward scored a goal in his debut, a 5-2 loss to Grand Rapids.
Swanson used his smarts to break to open ice, while his teammate, Jace Kampsula, rushed the puck up the boards in the neutral zone. Tate’s hustle created a 2-on-1, breaking to the middle of the ice and then into the offensive zone with Kampsula. He revived a pass in the slot, which he then finished with a quick backhand/forehand deke that he deposited with a quick shot in the back of the net. The goal was Hibbin’s first of the season and seemed to calm the nerves of the young squad, who were down 4-0 at the time in front of a packed house in Grand Raipds.
Plays like these were all too common last season for Swanson as he accumulated 139 points for the Bantam A Champs, leading the team in scoring while showcasing high-end skill.
The late 2007 DOB is a smart player that has the keen ability to find holes and then act quickly to make plays to take full advantage of the opening. Not only does Tate possess a high IQ on the ice, he has good stickwork and body positioning to aid his scoring drive.
The goal and effort was not enough for Swanson and Hibbing in the opener, but with such a young group of talented players, their time is soon to come.
Keep close tabs on Tate and Hibbing this season.
