Minnetonka High School forward Ashton Schultz committed to the University of North Dakota on Thursday, making him the ninth player of the 2023 State Champion Skippers that have made commitments to D1 schools. Schultz is the first Minnesotan to commit to North Dakota since Carson Pilgrim did so in April.
Schultz was the spark that Minnetonka needed last season providing a nice punch to their lineup despite only being a sophomore. Ashton scored 14 goals and added 22 assists in 31 games, including the game-winner in the State Championship game. Schultz was clutch last season, scoring points in all six of Minnetonka’s playoff games while providing excellent defensive play.
Schultz is such an affective player thanks to his energy and high hockey IQ, which feed well of each other. With the puck he creates scoring chances, without it he moves to open areas to receive a pass or ready to pounce on a rebound. His skillset will translate well to the D1 level and is a terrific pickup by North Dakota.
Next up for Schultz is the Upper Midwest Elite League.
