The Minnesota Hockey Life News and Notes 7/11/2023

-News, prospects, thoughts, and ramblings from around the state

-Congrats to former Blake goaltender Aksel Reid as he has committed to play at Union College. Reid played for the Bears for five years and capped off his high school career by being named as a finalist for the 2021 Frank Brimsek award. Last season he had a 2.82 GAA and .911 SV% over 39 games for the Springfield Jr. Blues of the NAHL.

-Jacob Rombach is up to big things out in New York at the USA Hockey 16’s Developmental Camp.

-Noah Cates signed a nice two-year, $5.25 Million deal with the Flyers. Noah is coming off a great campaign, scoring 13 goals and adding 25 assists in 82 games while playing great defense. Here’s what J-Fresh has to say about the Stillwater native.

-Becket Hendrickson, who was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 4th round will play at Sioux Falls of the USHL next season and then join the Gophers for the 2024-25 season. This makes sense as Beckett was just a junior this past season (June birthday) and why not spend another year developing with a great USHL organization instead of playing possible bottom 6 minutes with the Gophers.

-Team Minnesota Finished second at the Brick in Edmonton. Surrendering their only loss in the Championship at the hands of Montreal. It was a great performance by the squad, and it will be fun to watch these players in the coming years. Henry Corwin and Tanner Peterson were the leading scorers for Minnesota, collecting 13 points each in 8 games played.

-Maybe I just want this to happen as it’s not a rumor or speculation, but with the August 1st NCAA signing period approaching, I’ve been thinking that Holy Angels Star Henry Lechner and the University of St. Thomas makes a lot of sense.
