This year’s Minnesota Mr. Hockey is wide open, as there are many great candidates viable for the prestigious award. One name that should be added to the conversation is St. Thomas Academy’s Tommy Cronin.
The senior forward has scored 8 goals and 3 assists in 4 games played, that has made him involved in 73% of STA’s scoring so far this season. More importantly the Cadets are 4-0 with wins over Cretin, Duluth East, Eastview, and Blake.
The St. Thomas Captain, who is committed to Colgate University, is an intelligent player that sees the ice extremely well. He has nice acceleration, helping him gain separation from defenders and protects the puck with excellent stick handling and use of his body to shield the puck. Cronin also has quick hands and a nice hard shot, which is a bit deceptive and accurate.
Cronin has 74 points in 50 games over 2+ seasons for St. Thomas and played great in two seasons in the Upper Midwest Elite League, putting up 46 points in 36 games, while playing a two-way game.
Cronin’s hot start with a young and inexperienced St. Thomas team not only has him in the conversation for Mr. Hockey, but as one of the favorites in my eyes.
It’s early yet,….. but never too early to talk Mr. Hockey.
