There are only two Minnesota products playing in the WHL currently, Graycyn Sawchyn and Will Subject.
Sawchyn, who played in the Chaska/Chanhassen youth program but was born in Edmonton, AB, is in his first season with the Seattle Thunderbirds, where he has put up 14 points (3 goals, 11 assists) in just 11 games. Sawchyn was the first overall pick of the 2020 WHL U.S. Priority Draft but decided to advance his career with the U.S. National Team Development Program. After one season with the NTDP Sawchyn made the change to the WHL and joined Seattle. Sawchyn is a “B” rated player on NHL Central Scouting 2022-23 preliminary players to watch list.
The other Minnesota product playing in the WHL is Will Subject of Wayzata, who accepted a contract with Vancouver after training camp this past fall. Subject was going into his senior season at Wayzata this year after scoring 2 points (both assists) in 16 games last season. Will has 0 points in 8 games this season.
