St. Cloud State received a commitment from Hill-Murray standout Leo Gruba. The 6’2, 205-pound defenseman scored 12 goals and added 21 assists in 31 games this season for the Pioneers. After the high school season Gruba joined the St. Cloud Norsemen of the NAHL, where he played in 21 games, registering a goal and seven assists.

Leo’s father Tony Gruba played for St. Cloud and captained the team during the 1993-94 season. Leo is expected to start playing for the Huskies in the 2023-24 season.

Gruba is ranked 125th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting for the 2022 NHL Draft, which will be held in Montreal on July 7th and 8th. The Elko, Minnesota native is a two-way defenseman that can move the puck on the rush and play stingy defense in his own end.
