NHL Central Scouting released their Mid-Season Rankings for the 2022 NHL Draft this afternoon. There are 18 Minnesota products listed, headlined by Chaska native Jimmy Snuggerud at number 7 among North American Skaters. The puck savvy forward is currently playing for the USA U-18’s and is committed to the Golden Gophers for next season. Jimmy has 47 points in 43 games this season.
Defenseman Ryan Chesley also cracked the top 25 in the rankings. Chesley, who is also committed to the University of Minnesota, is Snuggerrud’s teammate on the NTDP U-18 Team. Chesley has 10 points in 41 games for USA U-18’s.
There are nine prospects listed that are currently playing Minnesota high school hockey, the highest being Chaska’s Sam Rinzel who is listed at 26. Zam Plante of Hermantown is 40th and Alex Bump of Prior Lake, is ranked 69th among North American skaters. Last season there were 16 Minnesotans on the list with eight that were playing Minnesota high school hockey.
Nine Minnesotans were taken in the 2021 NHL Draft, eight of them were on the Mid-Season rankings. The NHL Draft is scheduled to start on Thursday, July 7th.
