Chaz Lucius, Minnesota’s top-rated prospect for the 2021 NHL Draft, was selected by the Winnipeg Jets with the 18th pick in the first round. The selection ended the draft day wait game for Lucius and gave incredible draft value for the Jets as they acquired perhaps the top pure goal scorer in the draft.
“It’s a really good value pick where we got it, Jets General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff said of Lucius, “he’s a really skilled player, a very good character player.”
Lucuis, a native of Grant Minnesota, is the highest Minnesotan taken in the NHL Draft since Casey Mittelstadt was selected by the Buffalo Sabres 8th overall in the 2017.
Up next for Lucius is his freshman season with the University of Minnesota, where he will be needed for his elite ability to produce scoring opportunities and give the Gophers a forward who can be a consistent scoring threat in the offensive zone.
