The Gophers pulled out two wins in under 24 hours to make a statement to start this unprecedented season. Jack Lafontaine looked controlled and confident as he stopped 60 of 63 Nittany Lion shots. The former 3rd round pick (75 overall) of the Hurricanes, played strong, staying square to the shooter and controlling his rebounds.
The Gophers moved their feet and created a lot of space, especially on Thursday night and things just seemed to click. On Friday the Gophers passing and shooting accuracy left much to be desired but they still pulled off the victory against a good Penn State team. If they can continue to show team speed and creativity, it should be a fun season of hockey in Dinkytown.
Senior Scott Reedy led the charge up front as he was on the puck and constantly creating scoring opportunities throughout their two-game set. The defense played very well, limiting quality scoring opportunities at the expense of some extra shots on net. Brock Faber played extremely well in college debut; he looks like a great addition to the Gopher Blue Line.
